About Us

The IsAbility Sports Club Limpopo is a registered Non-Profit Organisation with registration number 256/850NPO, and is a satellite IsAbility Club with its own constitution and is affiliated to LIMA (Limpopo Athletics Association) and Limpopo SAPD (Sports Association for the Physically Disabled) since early 2020.  It has a similar vision and mission to the Is Ability Sports Club in Gauteng.

Background of the project

IsAbility Gauteng is a Gauteng based sports club that specializes in creating awareness of opportunities for differently-abled as well as able-bodied athletes, and then developing these athletes further to participate at provincial, national and international levels, or simply to participate for social and physical well-being.

In 2018 an initiative was launched in Louis Trichardt to work towards establishing a satellite IsAbility Club with similar aims in the Limpopo Province. There is currently limited development of disabled athletes in Limpopo Province, which is unfortunate since “Sport is generally regarded as one of the vital components in the integration of people with disabilities into society.  It is also often a vital component in the successful rehabilitation of people with disabilities.” (quoted from the “Integrated National Disability Strategy – White paper of the Office of the President)”.

10 November 2018

For any para-athlete to participate provincially, nationally or internationally, the athlete needs to be evaluated and classified into a category that enables the athlete to participate against similarly-abled athletes.   This classification is a scientific, timeconsuming process and requires qualified, accredited medical and technical classifiers.
